We decided to take the long way home this time around. We took the Sunshine Coast instead of the usual Nanaimo-Vancouver ferry route and then decided to drive the windy, steep, very picturesque route home, through Whistler, Pemberton, Lillooett, and Cache Creek. Along the way we hoped to camp at a Provincial campsite, but ended up losing out on the last available site at 4 pm in the afternoon, both of us tired and hot (no air conditioning in Leroy VW Brown!). So, we kept on driving, hoping to find another provincial site. It turned out, we found the next best thing. Actually, maybe it was a better thing! It was free! We pulled off the highway to investigate a ‘recreational site’ and found a gem-about 4 campsites along a river and nobody else was there when we arrived. Aongside the river, we set up camp.
Cooling ourselves off in the river, devouring a great barbeque chicken dinner, and falling asleep o the sound of running water. It was a great way to end our holiday.
It’s been a busy summer, traveling, visiting, attending weddings.. but having such a satisfying summer has made it a little easier to ease back into the regular Fall routine. And our September weather has been so warm, that it doesn’t really feel like summer is completely over yet!
