I had written about a challenge I had given myself on how to get my 'to read' booklist under control. In a nutshell, I've decided not to purchase any new books in 2016 (except with a gift card, etc). So, I've begun unsubscribing from Kindle ebook deals. It was tough, but sometimes the big guns have to come out. I've got the shakes, but I think I'll be okay. ;)
I made a list of about 21 books I want to complete before I read anything else. These have been set aside for easy access. In the last two days, I've completed two, so I'm already whittling away.

My fiction to nonfiction ratio is about 2:19, which must be remedied. I need a little more FICTION in my life. Honey For A Woman's Heart - growing your world through reading great books is a book I already own which I'm planning to refer to once my to-read pile has dwindled.
I'm also going to be ruthless about which books to complete. If it feels like work to get through them, I will add them to my giveaway pile. I feel better already!
Here's to another great year of enjoying and pondering new ideas, old ideas, truths and mysteries, fact and fiction.
Do you have specific reading plans this year? Are you a fiction or non fiction fan?

I have been pretty intimidated by your "to read" list on Goodreads.... =) As you know, I am a fiction girl. Escape reality... haha!!
ReplyDeleteI mentioned to one of our daughters I had thought about limiting my purchasing of books (I never spend much, and tend to buy used), or only reading what's already here, and she asked me WHY? Why punish myself, which is what it'd be, addict that I am.
ReplyDeleteI admire your self-control, of which I have none.
I did notice that your blog post had disappeared; when I went to click it open, it said "sorry this page is not available" or something like that.
ReplyDeleteI like your plan to get through your reading list. I'm doing the same (okay I admit I did buy 3 books this year already, but in defense, one of them was a sequel to a book I just finished reading, so I had to get the next one, right??) That was a good book; Healing Ruby by Jennifer Westall.
I just had signed up with one ebook server, BookBub, not all of their books are free, but reduced, 0.99 cents, 1.99, 2.99, and then the free books. Lately I've just been deleting the email and not opening it until I get through some of these books.
I do agree with you, if a book doesn't capture my interest right away, I'm going to move on from it.
Happy reading!
betty
I do so dislike it when things just poof...I don't read much anymore I might just need to go on an electronic hiatus and pull out some of my accumulated books...I used to read avidly but I find unless it really grabs me I just don't have it in me right now, I'm hoping it is just a season and the bug will "literally" bite me again...lol
ReplyDeleteDarn, just when I was ready to suggest all these great books I'm reading! Haha! I guess That one I recommended the other day will have to wait till 2017!
