~Why~

Day 4 Why

"Why, mommy?" .......

I have a little toddler grandson right now who is still at the stage of taking in everything he sees in the world around him, without really talking about it. He points, he smiles, he laughs, he claps, he runs toward, he touches. But he hasn’t really started talking yet. He hasn’t started asking “Why?”.

Oh, he let’s us know what he wants, but we’re not really answering his questions. We are more often just telling him what we think he wants or needs to hear. The questions aren’t coming. Yet. One day he’s going to start asking "why?"  That will be interesting!

I love how a child’s questions are both simple and deep. Asking questions means we’re engaging with the world around us. It’s healthy to ask questions.

I believe God is good with us asking questions, too. He’s all ears and, because He loves us, He will reveal the answers at the right time. We may want the answers sooner than we get them, though!

I’ve  joined the 31 Days of Five Minute Freewrites. Read more about it here.

  1. I so relate to your post. Our 2-yr-old grandson who lives with us (along with Daddy, Mommy and his little sister) has just started asking why about everything! Sometimes when we say I don't know to his why question, he throws out his hands and says "what???" Enjoyed your writing!!

  2. He's adorable! Our wee one is just over 2-1/2 years old. He's getting the words down pretty well, but the "why" hasn't come yet. I'll be looking forward to that for sure.
